[ARCHIVED] Animal Services to Host 2nd Annual Splash Dance for Dogs

Following their success in 2014, Pocatello Animal Services, Friends of the Pocatello Animal Shelter, and the Ross Park Aquatic Complex will be hosting their second Splash Dance for Dogs Saturday, September 19, 2015.

The fundraiser will run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and turns the City’s aquatic complex turned into a dog park for a day.

“Last year, we had dogs jumping off the edge and into the large pool going after tennis balls and Frisbees,” said Mary Remer, Animal Services Director for the City of Pocatello. “The dogs also were able to enjoy the kiddie pool which was turned into a wet racetrack. All the dogs had a blast and our volunteers said it was one of the best events they worked on.”

In 2014, a little over 200 dogs attended and helped raise about $2,700 for the adoption programs at the Pocatello Animal Shelter.

“The money helps pay for medical emergencies through our ‘2nd Chance Fund,’ supports the ‘Katie’s Old Friends’ program that pays part of the adoption fee for dogs six-years-old and older, and assists our nation’s veterans in getting a furry friend of their own through our ‘Pets for Vets’ program to name just a few,” Remer said.

The entry fee is $10 per dog and for more information you can contact Pocatello Animal Services at 234-6156 or visit Pocatello.us/150/Animal-Services. Officials ask that if you and your pet attend the Splash Dance for Dogs that you adhere to the following guidelines:

- Make sure your dog is wearing a collar and proper identification.
- Keep your dog on a leash until they are in the pool fenced area.
- Make sure your dog is current on their vaccinations. Check with your veterinarian on what vaccinations your dog should have to be safe.
- Bring your dog’s life jacket if they use one and some tennis balls. (Please know dogs just assume you are going to share with everyone.)
- Bring your lawn chair, sun hat and suntan lotion.
