Pavement conditions in the City of Pocatello have shown measurable improvement, according to a recent survey conducted by Infrastructure Management Services (IMS), a nationally recognized firm that evaluates roadways across the country.
“The City’s increased PCI score shows our pavement plan is working,” said Tom Kirkman, Public Works Director. “By focusing on preventative maintenance and smart upgrades, we’re making our roads last longer and improving the drive for everyone.”
The City’s Pavement Condition Index (PCI) score increased from 72.15 to 75.28, placing Pocatello’s roads in the “Very Good” category. The national average typically ranges between 65 and 70, meaning Pocatello’s roadways are performing well above average. The PCI score is determined through a standardized assessment conducted by IMS, which evaluates roadway conditions on a scale of 0 to 100. The PCI score helps the City decide which streets need repairs and where to focus maintenance efforts. The evaluation looks at surface distress indicators like cracks, rutting, potholes, and ride smoothness.
“Achieving a PCI of 75.28 is something the community can be proud of,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “It reflects years of consistent planning and hard work by our Street Services team and demonstrates our commitment to keeping Pocatello’s roads safe, reliable, and in great shape for the community.”
