Marshall Public Library (MPL) is celebrating Jólabókaflóðið this year, also known as Jolabokaflod! Jolabokaflod is an Icelandic word that, literally translated, means Christmastime flood of books. Jolabokaflod involves people exchanging books on Christmas Eve and then spending the evening reading at home.
“2023 also marks the 180th anniversary of A Christmas Carol’s publication so, as part of the library’s Jolabokaflod celebrations, we are giving away 200 copies of this title,” said Amy Campbell, Public Services Supervisor.
Financial support from Idaho Central Credit Union, the Pocatello Rotary Club, and the Friends of MPL made this special Jolabokaflod giveaway possible. These three organizations purchased 200 copies of a beautiful hardbound keepsake edition of the classic Christmas tale.
The copies of A Christmas Carol will be available starting Friday, December 1, and availability will last until all 200 copies have been given away. There is a limit of one book per household and you must have a library card with MPL to receive a copy. E-audio and e-book copies will also be available through Overdrive for MPL card holders. Happy Jolabokaflod 2023!
