[ARCHIVED] Volunteers Needed for Annual Portneuf River Cleanup

Portneuf River Cleanup flyer 2025

The City of Pocatello invites the community to roll up their sleeves and pitch in for the annual Portneuf River Cleanup Saturday, August 16. This event is an opportunity to help keep our river clean, healthy, and beautiful while supporting the long-term goals of the Portneuf River Vision.

Event Details

    Date: Saturday, August 16, 2025

    Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Meeting Location: Pacific Recycling Trailhead (on N. Main, just off Kraft Rd.)

Cleanup Area: Raymond Park to Simplot, along the riverbank and in the stream

What to Bring

Work gloves (extras will be provided)

Optional: handsaws, nets (extras will be available), and boots/waders/water shoes

This year’s cleanup will focus on removing trash, debris, and invasive materials from both the banks and main channel of the Portneuf River. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers each year, the Portneuf River continues to improve as a recreational and ecological resource for our community.

“Every year, we see more people enjoying the river,” said Brenna Olson, Science & Environment Technician. “Events like this show how much our community cares about protecting and enhancing this natural treasure.”

Business groups, service clubs, and individual volunteers are encouraged to attend. Together, we can keep the Portneuf River a vibrant part of Pocatello for generations to come. If you have your own boat and would like to use it with the cleanup, contact stormwater@pocatello.gov or 208-234-6519 in advance for float route details.

In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, it is the policy of the City of Pocatello to offer its public programs, services, and meetings in a manner that is readily accessible to everyone, including those with disabilities.  If you are disabled and require an accommodation, please contact Skyler Beebe with two (2) business days’ advance notice at sbeebe@pocatello.gov; 208.234.6248; or 5815 South 5th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho.  Advance notification within this guideline will enable the City to make reasonable arrangements to ensure accessibility.
