May 29, 2025, at approximately 6:19 a.m., the Pocatello Police Department was notified of a domestic disturbance in the area of 1730 West Quinn Avenue. An initial alert was issued at 8:05 a.m. on Nixle, advising the public to avoid the area due to an active investigation.
Upon arrival, officers learned that the male suspect, 40-year-old Logan Smith, had barricaded himself inside the residence with a female and three children.
As the investigation progressed, the Pocatello Police Immediate Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were deployed to the scene. While speaking with Pocatello Police Dispatch, the female reported that the suspect was armed with both a gun and a machete. With dispatch's assistance, officers safely evacuated the woman and three children from the residence without incident.
Officers then obtained a search warrant for the residence. Following lengthy negotiations, the suspect peacefully surrendered and was taken into custody. Smith was arrested on three counts of aggravated assault.
No injuries were sustained during the incident. The area has been cleared and reopened to the public. We want to thank the community for their patience and cooperation throughout the duration of this incident.
