The City of Pocatello is pleased to announce that the 1st Avenue Storm Sewer Project is wrapping up ahead of schedule.
As part of the project, the Center Street Underpass was temporarily closed. Beginning Thursday evening, May 1, once paving is completed on 1st Avenue just south of Center Street, the eastbound lane of Center Street will reopen to traffic.
Following the reopening of the eastbound lane, crews will complete paving on 1st Avenue north of Center Street. The entire project is expected to be completed, and both lanes of traffic under the Center Street Underpass is scheduled to reopen next week, weather permitting.
This infrastructure project included the installation of a new storm sewer system along 1st Avenue from East Clark Street to East Whitman Street. These improvements are designed to significantly reduce flooding in the Center Street Underpass area during storms and periods of heavy runoff.
Funding for this critical infrastructure improvement was made possible through the American Rescue Plan Act.
The City extends its sincere appreciation to residents and commuters for their patience and cooperation throughout the duration of the project. For additional information or questions, please contact the Streets Department at 208-234-6250.
