The City of Pocatello is seeking public input for an Idaho Department of Parks and Recreation Recreational Trails Program grant application. The preliminary project design estimates a total project cost of $85,000. If grant funds are awarded, the improvements could be made as early as 2026 and 2027.
The application would fund trailhead and parking area improvements at the Upper City Creek Trailhead, located at City Creek Road. Proposed improvements would realign the parking area to increase the number of vehicles that could be accommodated, including clearly defined trail entrances and the installation of a vault toilet. If funding allows, additional amenities may be installed, such as improved lighting, security features, and a pavilion. The area would also be made ADA-accessible. Trailhead improvements will create safer, more accessible trail access and allow for future project phases such as the expansion of beginner-level Mountain Bike Trails.
“The expansion and improvements to the Upper City Creek trailhead will result in a more welcoming and safer trailhead that can accommodate the growing number of City Creek trail users,” said Cary Rhodes, Outdoor Recreation Manager. “We hope that the expansion of the beginner trail system will make the trails more accessible for youth, families, and novice bikers and hikers.”
