The City of Pocatello seeks public input for a State of Idaho Outdoor Recreation Fund Advisory Council grant application. The application would fund trailhead and parking area improvements at the Upper City Creek Trailhead, located on City Creek Road.
Proposed improvements would realign the parking area to expand the number of vehicles accommodated while also clearly defining trail entrances, access to City Creek Road, and installing a vault toilet. Additional amenities include improved lighting, security features, and a pavilion if funding allows. This will allow for the expansion of beginner-level mountain biking and hiking trails while ensuring trail access uses on City-owned property.
Preliminary project design estimates phase one of the project will cost approximately $342,500. Phase one will include the parking lot, fencing, gates, vault toilet, and water filling station.
“The expansion and improvements to the Upper City Creek trailhead will result in a more welcoming and safer trailhead that can accommodate the growing number of City Creek trail users,” said Cary Rhodes, Outdoor Recreation Manager. “We hope expanding the beginner trail system will make the trails more accessible for youth, families, and novice bikers and hikers.”
If grant funds are awarded, the improvements will be made in 2025.
