The City of Pocatello is changing its schedule for the Fiscal Year 2025 (FY2025) budget adoption.
August 1, during the regular City Council meeting, there will be two separate FY2025 public hearings. The first hearing is for the City’s proposed FY2025 fee changes. Cities must provide an opportunity for citizens to give input on new fees or fees that are increasing by more than 5%.
The second public hearing is for the proposed use of 1%, or $329,654 of forgone property tax dollars. When a city chooses to levy less property tax dollars than is allowed by law, that city can recover the property tax in future years per Idaho Code. The City of Pocatello has not levied the full amount allowed by law for several years and is now proposing to do so.
The final public hearing for the proposed FY2025 revenues and expenditures will be held at the August 15 regular City Council meeting, instead of the August 1 meeting as originally planned. The full notice of revenue and expenditures is expected to be republished to the public August 7 and August 14.
Citizens are invited to give testimony at both meetings regarding the creation of the Fiscal Year 2025 budget. Oral testimony may be offered at the August 1 or August 15 meetings and is restricted to no more than three (3) minutes per person.
Written testimony for the FY2025 proposed fees and use of forgone property tax dollars may be submitted up to 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 1. Written testimony for the FY2025 revenues and expenditures may be submitted by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 15.
The City of Pocatello’s Fiscal Year 2025 begins October 1, 2024 and ends September 30, 2025.
