Curious about your family history? Marshall Public Library (MPL) is hosting a family history and genealogy workshop on how to get started. It will be held Monday, April 29, at 7 p.m. in the Yost-Ashcroft Exploration Center.
Library Specialist Becky Mitton is coordinating the event for MPL. Mitton became interested in family history and genealogy in 1998 when she heard about an elusive ancestor, and found she could research his records online.
“I am so excited for the upcoming library family history and genealogy workshop,” said Mitton. “It’s important to find out about our ancestors to keep their stories from being lost.”
Don Despain and Sharon Clark from the Pocatello LDS Family History Center will be teaching the workshop. Don has been doing family history and genealogy for most of his adult life. His interest began as he helped his grandmother search through old records. He has worked at the Family History Center for seven years. Sharon has worked at the Family History Center for 12 years helping patrons with their family history and genealogical research. Despain and Clark are both eager to help others learn about their ancestors, their stories, and how to research family history and genealogy.
The workshop is for anyone who would like to research their family’s history. MPL will be able to accommodate about 15 people, and all ages can sign up. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptops.
