The City of Pocatello has $450,000 to distribute to commercial landowners wanting to conduct assessments on potential Brownfield property. City staff will be hosting two different events March 20. The first event at 2 p.m. is an information session geared towards brokers, commercial lenders, and realtors. The second event is an open house for the general public from 4 to 6 p.m., both events will be held at City Hall, 911 North 7th Avenue. During the open house, residents can learn what a Brownfield is and how the grant can benefit the community.
The City of Pocatello was awarded an EPA Community-Wide Brownfield Assessment grant. This Brownfield Redevelopment Program funding allows the City to assist with redevelopment projects. Revitalizing Brownfield sites creates benefits throughout the community. Redeveloping previously developed sites and reusing existing infrastructure, utilities, and roads allows open space and undeveloped land to be preserved. In addition, it boosts the local economy by increasing city tax revenues, creating jobs, and improving the value of adjacent property.
