The Marshall Public Library (MPL) is excited to announce the grand opening of the new Yost-Ashcroft Family STEAM Exploration Center at MPL set for March 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., at 113 S. Garfield Avenue. STEAM stands for Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Math, and is part of a national effort to increase competency in these core areas of education.
Thanks to a generous grant by the Yost-Ashcroft family, the STEAM Exploration Center will contain workstations and hands-on resources. This will allow library patrons to engage in self-paced exploration and learning in fundamental areas critical to functioning in today’s society. Materials and curricula will be consistent with nationally established standards for STEAM education targeted to school-age students.
“We’re holding the grand opening of our new STEAM Exploration Center concurrently with the First Friday Art Walk that’s been such a popular event downtown,” said Eric Suess, Director of the Marshall Public Library. “We hope people will take advantage of the opportunity to pop into the library and see this wonderful new community asset. We can’t thank the Yost-Ashcroft family enough.”
“Our library is more than a collection of books,” said Trina Bonman, Assistant Director of the Marshall Public Library. “The new exploration center is just one more thing we can offer our community and the best part is, it’s free to anyone with a library card.”
