Starting November 3, the Marshall Public Library (MPL) invites patrons to pay off overdue fines in a meaningful way, by helping those in need.
As part of the Library’s annual “Food for Fines” drive, each non-perishable food item donated will forgive $1 in overdue fines. For example, 10 cans of food = $10 in fines forgiven. All donations will benefit The Idaho Foodbank.
“Thank you to the community for their continued support of those in need,” said MPL Librarian Kristy Lyon. “Over the past ten years, we’ve collected more than 9,400 food items thanks to your generosity.”
Now in its 11th year, the program continues to grow in community support and impact.
Donations must be shelf-stable and non-expired, including items like:
• Canned fruits, vegetables, meats, or soups
• Boxed meals and pasta
• Peanut butter and jelly
Please note that home-canned goods, opened packages, or expired items cannot be accepted.
Food for Fines runs through December 13 and does not apply to:
• Replacement fees for lost or damaged items
• Card replacement fees
• Future overdue fines
For those with replacement fees, Library staff are happy to discuss payment plan options.
