The City of Pocatello has received official notice regarding the termination of two major competitively-awarded federal grants totaling more than $17 million. These funds would provide long-needed for critical infrastructure modernization, including safe drinking water improvements.
City officials are actively working to formally dispute the termination of both awards, as outlined under federal grant regulations. Both projects have strong community support and have already provided jobs to Pocatello businesses. The City remains fully committed to advocating for these projects and the transformative benefits they represent for the community.
“These grants were key to advancing Pocatello’s infrastructure modernization goals to meet our community’s needs,” said Mayor Brian Blad. “We are pursuing all available avenues to reinstate this funding and move these important projects forward.”
Grant information:
- In December 2024, the City was awarded $16.4 million through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Community Change Grant Program. The grant was intended to support the South 5th Avenue Complete Streets and Sewer Project, aimed at improving water infrastructure and transportation safety.
- Additionally, the City had secured $1 million from the U.S. Forest Service’s Urban and Community Forestry Program, to expand local tree-planting efforts.
