For the second year in a row, the Pocatello branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) will have a public display at the Marshall Public Library. This year’s display will center around Pocatello’s Historic Triangle Neighborhood and will be available for viewing through February in honor of Black History Month.
Pocatello’s Historic Triangle Neighborhood was home to a diverse group of Black, Asian, Italian, Greek, and French residents during the early twentieth century. The display will also honor the legacy of five prominent NAACP members who recently passed, namely Kenneth Monroe, Billy Lake, John Mackay, Jim Robinson, and Jim Johnston.
A handful of community members helped put this display together including longtime member of the Pocatello Branch NAACP Lorena Bangs, collections manager at the Bannock County Historical Museum Kianna Brown, and project coordinator on documenting the history of the Triangle Neighborhood Ruta Casabianca.
Marshall Public Library is accessible to persons with disabilities. Program access accommodations may be provided with two (2) days’ advance notice by contacting Skyler Beebe at sbeebe@pocatello.gov; 208.234.6248; or 5815 South 5th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho.
