The Pocatello Fire Department will conduct a Burn & Learn training exercise Tuesday, June 3, 2025, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at 4335 Hawthorne Rd, across from Home Depot.
This live fire training provides critical, hands-on experience for firefighters and investigators to observe fire behavior, practice tactical operations, and improve fire investigation techniques, all in a controlled, realistic environment.
These exercises allow fire investigators to study how various materials burn, examine fire patterns, and understand the development of a fire from ignition through extinguishment. This hands-on training is crucial for improving accuracy in identifying fire origins and causes critical in arson investigations and fire prevention efforts.
Motorists should use caution in the area, as intermittent heavy smoke may reduce visibility. Alternate routes are advised. Residents with respiratory conditions may want to avoid the area during the burn.
The exercise will follow U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and National Fire Protection Association safety standards, with weather and safety conditions carefully monitored.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the Pocatello Fire Department at 208-234-6201.
