Pocatello Storm Water Management

Storm water is runoff water from rain and snow. It flows across our driveways, parking lots and streets into storm drains. In this process it picks up oils, pet waste, trash, leaves and other contaminants. After flowing into the storm drains in our City streets, miles of pipes transport storm water to the Portneuf River. A small portion is piped to ponds and infiltration trenches where it can be absorbed into the ground.

Federal Clean Water Act

The federal Clean Water Act and Safe Drinking Water Act requires the City to manage storm water runoff to protect water quality in our streams and protect the quality of our ground water as a drinking water resource.
