About the Council

The Pocatello Mayor's Youth Advisory Council is an advisory committee to the Mayor and City Council on matters pertaining to programs, facilities, and concerns of local young people, as well as to provide training opportunities and learning experiences for them regarding governance and leadership.

Members shall be from students in the 9th through 12th grades within the Pocatello/Chubbuck School District boundaries, but can be students in private, public, home-schooled or online academies. Members are appointed by the Mayor, contingent upon receipt of written consent of a parent or guardian and 2 teacher recommendations. Members serve until their date of graduation.

Attendance Requirements

Members must be able to attend at least half of the Youth Council Meetings, and there are approximately 16 official meetings between September and May. In addition, members must

  • participate in at least 2 Youth Council activities outside of regular meetings
  • attend one Pocatello City Council Meeting

There is also an attendance policy that allows only 3 unexcused absences within the meeting year.

Recommend

Two teacher recommendations are required. Teachers may submit recommendations electronically by using the Teacher Recommendation Form.
